SIR WILLIAM HOWARD RUSSELL () William Russell was born at Lilyvale, near Tallaght, in the county of Dublin, on the 28th of March , being one of the Russells of Limerick, whose settlement in Ireland dates from the time of Richard II. Raised by a Protestant father and Catholic mother in Ireland, Russell's family moved to Liverpool. William Howard Russell was an Irish reporter with The Times, and is considered to have been one of the first modern war correspondents, after he spent 22 months covering the Crimean War including the Charge of the Light Brigade/5.
